ET Boys Basketball Notebook: Hallsville's Parker takes top weekly honor, more

Blaine Parker's steady, consistent play helped lead Hallsville to a pair of wins last week, earning Parker ETvarsity.com/Best Preps Basketball Player of the Week honors.

Parker averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and four steals per game as the Bobcats (10-4) notched wins over Chapel Hill (60-41) and New Boston (88-36). Perhaps even more important, the Bobcat standout handled the ball flawlessly in the two games — with one turnover in each game.

Parker opened the week with 15 points, four assists and three steals against New Boston and added 18 points and three assists against Chapel Hill — sinking all four of his free throw attempts.

Hallsville faced Center Monday and lost in overtime, 59-51.

THE WEEK AHEAD

A few games are on tap today, but the action really heats up on Monday with tournaments in Tyler (Wagstaff), Liberty City (Sabine) and Tenaha and then Tuesday and Wednesday with Longview's Leroy Romines Holiday Hoopfest.

Look for schedules in Sunday's News-Journal.
